As a young AFP wire-service journalist in Beijing in the 1990s, I learned to tell stories clearly and succinctly. And to dig deep, find the angle, condense copy to its essence and never miss a deadline.

But it was in 25 years of running my own businesses that I caught the marketing bug.

Whether at the helm of Beijing’s first catering company, restoring beautiful properties in Italy or transforming women’s health with yoga and other natural therapies, the lesson was the same …

Copywriters miss the point
